Virtual Centennial Memory Book

As part of our Centennial Celebration we are inviting you, our community of adopters and supporters, to mark this milestone in League history by sharing your memories with us.

Memories of the pets that have changed lives during our first 100 years will be shared in our Virtual Centennial Memory Book on the Dumb Friends League website.

We are looking not just for stories of current pets but also that very first pet you or your family adopted from the League or memories from attending a Dumb Friends League event or participating in one of our Humane Ed programs.

If you would like to be a part of the Virtual Centennial Memory Book, please put in writing a brief tribute on one of the following topics:

  • How your pet changed your life
  • Family milestones shared with your pet
  • Your favorite memory of you and your pet
  • Experience at the Dumb Friends League

Submission Guidelines:

  1. Your pet (living or deceased) must be a Dumb Friends League alumnus.
  2. Please include the year your pet was adopted (if known).
  3. Please include at least two photos, preferably photos featuring you with your pet.
  4. Please limit your submission to 150 words.
  5. E-mail your memory and photos to: centennial@ddfl.org or mail to:
Dumb Friends League, Attn: Virtual Centennial Memory Book,
    2080 S. Quebec St., Denver, CO 80231

Thank you for sharing your story with us as we celebrate 100 years of helping pets and people make memories that last a lifetime!

Gifts for that special animal lover

We have many wonderful gifts available in our Sit… Stay… Shops. Also, you’ll find a wide variety of shirts, hats, coffee mugs, mouse pads, tote bags and much more at our online gift store. They make the “purr”-fect gifts.

Gift cards

For the person who wants a pet, this is the best way to give one as a gift. Accompany the gift card with a stuffed animal and pet supplies. The recipient can then visit us to personally select their new pet. Gift cards, available for purchase at our shops, also are good for retail items and classes.

Tribute donations

For pets or people with everything, consider making a donation in their honor. They will receive a prompt acknowledgment of your generosity. Your donation can be made securely online by clicking here, in person at the Dumb Friends League or by mail. Click here to print out the mail-order form (Adobe Acrobat Reader is required).

Help prevent unwanted litters

Donate to the Pet Overpopulation Fund through your Colorado State income tax form. You can also contribute any time directly to the Fund by sending a donation to 455 Sherman Street, Suite 462, Denver, CO 80203. Checks should be made out to the Pet Overpopulation Fund.Last year over 38,000 of the 158,000 dogs and cats that entered Colorado shelters were euthanized. Although this is a large number of euthanasias, it reflects a decrease of 2,000 from 2007 - thanks in large part to Pet Overpopulation Fund donors! In 2001, the Colorado State Legislature created the Fund to provide subsidized spay and neuter surgeries for dogs and cats in underserved areas of Colorado. As we begin the eighth year of the Fund, the Pet Overpopulation Fund has awarded over $1.3 million in grants for more than 37,000 pet sterilization surgeries in underserved areas of Colorado.bunny

Become a volunteer

Volunteers are very important people at the Dumb Friends League. As a private, non-profit organization, we rely on the assistance of caring and hardworking volunteers in all of our programs. To volunteer, you must be at least sixteen years old, and willing to make a six-month commitment of approximately three hours per week.

Work with us

We have many wonderful career opportunities to work with animals and people. If you love animals and enjoy helping people, then the Dumb Friends League may have a position for you.

If you see an animal being neglected or cruelly treated, do you know how to help that animal? What should any Denver metro area resident do if they suspect that a pet is being abused? The answer is to contact the Dumb Friends League's Investigations staff.
