Dogs and cats in Colorado need your help! I’m very concerned about our pets with special needs this summer. Your support of the Dumb Friends League will save precious lives. Can we count on you to contribute generously to our Summer Fund? On behalf of the animals in our care, thank you!
Robert D. Rohde, President Your gift will make a difference! You’ll help: Special pets in need in Denver That’s because some animals arrive at shelters with special needs that make it harder to find a home for them – and more expensive to give them care. Some are suffering from diseases like glaucoma or epilepsy, while others have broken bones or wounds. For example, take Bella, the delicate Italian greyhound who has a chronic, troublesome liver disorder. Or Penny Wiggins, the tiny kitten whose leg had to be amputated after she was hit by a car. The Dumb Friends League sees animals every week who are relinquished because the medical treatment may be too much for their families to handle. They also see animals with injuries from trauma. These helpless animals all have one thing in common – an increased cost of care. We can heal most of these animals with surgery, medicine, rehabilitation and love. But it takes time. And that healing and rehabilitation can be expensive. During the summer months especially, we have more than 1,000 animals in our care, many of whom require special – and sometimes costly – attention. So how can you help? These animals deserve a second chance just like any other cat or dog looking for a new home. Yes, we have to spend more money to nurse them back to health, but it’s all worth it when you see them walk out the door with a new forever family. |
